• Looks like a double strike. xONG.L--- over xONG.L---? Wee Bin & Co. operated s. s. Hong Leong (1895-1900) between Singapore and Amoy. The full stop between the G and L is puzzling however. [Harold Cartwright, 2 May 2007]

• the central symbol looks like a 5 pointed star over a cresent moon
• I think this is K. Kadir Mohammed x0 Market Street, Singapore. The crescent moon and stars are a symbol of the Muslim Faith. Bahawalpur (now in Pakistan) used this particular motif on their postage/official stamps, 1948-1949. I can only make out ?MALEAR? above the King?s head. Could this be a local spelling of ?mailer?? The left hand word might be ?Lender?. A letter writer and/or chettiar? [Harold Cartwright, 2 May 2007]

• the "S" and the "&" both have tails. To the left of the "S" there seems to be another tail going through the STR of the vertical word "STRAITS ." To the right of the "&" the "Co" is in a different type and might not be part of the handstamp.

• This seems to be The German TEUTONIA Club.
• The Teutonia Club was an association of the German community in Singapore. It was founded in 1856. Over the years, there were a series of club buildings. On 21 September 1900, a new club building, resembling a castle along the Rhine, was opened on Scott Road. During WWI, most of the German population of Singapore was shipped to Australia. The Teutonia Club building was ceased. Eventually it became the Goodwood Park Hotel. [see here]

• Cancelled by the D14 duplex of Singapore
• Could "AG" be the start of AGENT or AGENCY?
• I think this could be Walter Mansfield, Ships chandler, Singapore. In 1867 he became the agent for the Ocean SS Co. Ltd. (A. Holt, Blue Funnel Line). The cancellation fits the year. In 1868, name changed to W. Mansfield & Co. [Harold Cartwright, 2 May 2007]

• On the 2 cent stamp: Can anyone idetify the word in the centre of the chop? Maybe MALACCA?
• On the 5 cent stamp: Was this the same bank, using a shorter name?

• All of the stamps came from one lot and seem to be related.
• On the 6 cent stamps the word DEPARTMENT is repeated twice and the letters are taller than on the 12 cent stamp and they are serifs.
• The 8 cent stamp shows a part of a word that proceeds the word DEPARTMENT.
• The "G" on the 2 cent stamp and the lettering on the 12 cent stamp seem to be the same font.
• On the 2 cent brown stamp, the lettering seems to be "EX". [John Wilson, 15 March 2007]
• Is the word EXPORT on the 8c yellow stamp?
• Possible Alexander Stuart Registrar of Imports Exports. See the Singapore List of Jurors 1904. [H. A. Cartwright, 1 May 2006]

• Could this be Mahomed Mashurdin Merican Noordin
• Compare with ID186
• The Noradins were prominent Indian Muslim merchant in Penang. Mahomed Mashurdin Merican Noordin (1848-1924) known as M.M. Noordin was the son of Mahomed Noordin Merican (1778-1870). • there is no "E" after the "T" just a large space. To the far rignt and on the perforations there is the start of another letter. The partial word could be German "KONSULAT" or the French "CONSULAT".

• Since the month, in the date line, ends in "BRE" for Decembre this is likely a French firm such as Messageries Maritimes.
• Bre. The ?94? is part of a boxed (firm?s?) chop beneath the date stamp. I can make out ADITHA?R./ 94 / PORE. May be a slogan. [Harold Cartwright, 2 May 2007]

• There is the possibility that this is not western script.
• The oval is sufficiently large to accommodate one letter each side of those visible for a total of five letters.
• I am left with the impression that there are leaves in the pattern below and above the letters.
• The stamp is the 4 cents CA issued in July 1883.
• The stamp is cancelled with the dumb SINGAPORE cancel.
