Updated: 30 May 2006 Notes: In 1861, Walter Mansfield founded a the ship chandlery business of Mansfield and Co. In 1868, they became the agency for the Blue Funnel steamship line that was owned Alfred Holt & Co., Liverpool. Had offices in Singapore, Penang and Kuala Lumpur. In 1890 they became agents for Swire's China Navigation Company, a connection that prospered until Mansfield’s demise in the 1980's. In 1919, Mansfield Travel was established as a Travel Department within Mansfield & Co. In 1922, they became general managers of the Straits Steamship Company. Afterwards, the Sarawak Steamship Company also came under this management. After WWII, they became involved with the rebuilding of Malayan Airways whose first flight took place in April 1947. This attracted to them agencies such as BOAC, Pan American and Qantas. Seems to have been taken over by the Keppel Group [KAB Group] during the 1987 Malaysianisation. On the web:
