Notes:

In 1824, Spottiswoode & Connolly was founded by Charles Spottiswoode and John Connolly.

In 1837, Charles Spottiswoode, Thomas Scott and John Purvis formed the firm John Purvis & Co. [H02p61] Was one of the origin firm but closed as of 1884. [Additional information from John Wilson 20 November 2006. [M04]]

In 1849, after the death of John Connolly, the firm changed its name to William Spottiswoode and Company and had offices in Change Alley. [H2p253]

In 1854, three Spottiswoodes are listed as partners in the Spottiswoode and Company : Archibald, Charles and William.

Charles Spottiswoode was born on 21 December 1812 and died on 13 June 1858 and is buried in Fort Canning Christian Cemetery. [H02p26+61]

John Connolly died on 24 March 1849 at age 65 and is burried at Singapore. [H02p116+253]

Wm. Spottiswoode & Company were a member of the Board of the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore in 1862. [see here]

From 1844 to 1849, the firm was the agent for the P. & O. Company. [H04p167]
