The Armenian business man, Catchick Moses, founded the Straits Times. [Catchick Moses]

On 15 July 1845, the first edition of the Straits Times was printed. [Catchick Moses]

Robert Carr Woods, came from Bombay in 1845 and was the co-founder and was appointed the first editor. [W5p256-57]

In 1846, Robert Carr Woods compiled the first Straits Directory. [H2p263]

Robert Carr Woods was a partner in the firm Woods and Davidson. [H2p263]

In September 1846, the paper was sold to Robert Woods. [Catchick Moses]

In March 1900, the Paper was sold and became limited company.

15 February 1942, Singapore fell to Japanese and the Straits Times stopped publication until 7 September 1945 when the Japanese surrendered.
