Notes:

A European firm established in Singapore in 1867 [L02 table C].

“The firm of Peres, Zapp and Ritterhaus began in this year. The three partners were Carl August Peres in Solingen, and Rudolph Zapp and Richard Ritterhaus in Singapore. In 1858 it was called Zapp, Ritterhaus & Co. Mr. Bauer and Mr. Staehelin were afterwards clerks, and in 1863 it became Zapp, Bauer & Co., and in 1867 Staehelin & Stahlknecht. [REF: see MSC newsletter #4 (July/August) 1992 (Whole N0. 120 p. 5)]

The two founding partners were George Emil Staehelin (1838-1876), a Swiss, and Carlos German Stahlknecht (1842-1814), a German. [H06p303 & 406]

The company name was actually Staehelin, Stahlknecht & Co. but Staehelin & Stahlknecht was also used. [H06p406]

The firm closed in 1892 due to losses of produce and the failure of the Oriental Bank in Singapore. [H06p407]
