Notes:

Originated in Penang as Lorraine, Sandilands where they were the first British firm to establish themselves. Opened a branch office in Singapore in 1859 as Lorraine, Sandilands. When Mr. Lorraine retired in 1862, the firm shortened its name to Sandilands and Company. In 1863 John Buttery joined the company and its name was changed to Sandilands, Buttery and Company. [A01]

  • The tapioca estates of Batu Puteh in Kedah
  • Alma estate in Province Wellesley
  • Banks, steamship lines, insurance companies and other firms.
