Updated: 30 March 2006 Notes: Spicer and Robinson was founded 25 February 1858 by Philip Robinson, an Australia from Melbourne, and James Gaborian Spicer. They were in business as general warehousemen. Spicer left the partnership and on 5 October 1859 the firm became Robinson & Company and operated as a retail departmental store. Among other items they stocked musical instruments including pianos. The firm sent traveling representatives to promote their goods and take orders. One of their clients was King Mongut of Siam. In 1907 they became the agents for Raleigh bicycles which proved to be very popular as a cheap means of transportation. In 1920 they became a limited liability company. In 1928 they opened a branch in Kuala Lumpur. In 1955 they acquire John Little (Malaya) Ltd. On the web:
