[B02] Their branch office in Penang was known as Schmidt, Kustermann & Co. [W05p803] Associated with Schmidt & Kustermann, Hamburg and a firm in Schaffhausen, Switzerland [W05p672] On 17 April 1851 Mr. Rautenberg drowned in a squall of off Singapore. C. Rautenberg operated, on his own, a Forwarding Agency. Opened in Singapore in 1848, associated with Schmidt, Kustermann and Co., Penang, and Schmidt and Kustermann, Hamburg. Rautenberg drowned in 1851 and later partners joined Schmidt after 1858. M. Suhl became head of the firm in the 70’s and it was his son who was in charge from 1910 until the War.
