Maclaine, Fraser and Co.: F. Maclaine is in a list of merchants in the Resident’s report of 1824. The firm seems to have come into existence in 1827, with James Fraser in London and Lewis Fraser and Gilbert Angus Bain in Singapore. Two members of the Cummings family were in the company later (a son being partner in Fraser and Cumming), as was Charles Dunlop, who came out in 1857 and became partner in 1864. The firm dissolved shortly after 1880. [Additional information from John Wilson 20 November 2006. [M04]]
