On 15 April 1882, Hermann Jebsen of Altona, Germany and his partner A. Behncke founded the firm in Penang. [W05p796]
Both had been employed by Schmidt, Kustermann & Co., Penang. [W05p796] v
They were general importers (mainly from Germany) and exporters. [W05p796]
They were agents for many fire, life and marine insurance companies. [W05p796]
Mr. A Behncke died in 1885 and was replaced by A. Friedrichs who remained with the firm until 1900. [W05p796]
In 1902 Mr. Jebsen retired and the firm was sold to Messrs. Henry and Johannes Pickenpack. [W05p796]
Henry Pickenpack arrived in the East in 1894 and Johannes in 1896. [W05p796]
