Notes:

The Rev. B. P. Keasberry came to Singapore in 1837 and in 1847 became a self-supporting missionary (London Missionary Society), running a small printing press. On the death of his widow in 1875, the printing works. Still known as the Mission Press, was bought by Fraser and Neave. It was the publisher of the Singapore and Straits Directory. In 1883 the two partners created the Singapore and Straits Aerated Waters Co. The name of the parent concern was changed to Fraser and Neave in 1898 and branches were created in Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Ipoh, and Malacca. In 1879 F&N took over the Mission Press founded by the Rev. B. P. Keasberry in 1843. And this passed to the Limited Co. in 1898. General commercial printing business employing approximately 100 workers in 1907. Printers of The Singapore and The Straits Directory, The Singapore and Straits Diary and The Malay Handbook. In 1883, John Fraser and David Chalmers Neave founded the Straits Aerated Water Co. [M04p194]

John Fraser gained the nickname "The Jolly Octopus" due to his good nature and diversified business interests.
