Notes:

  • Dallan's Australian Horse Repository.
  • Established about 1888 by Mr. W. Dallan who was from Australia.
  • He died in 1901 and Mrs. Dallan carried on the business until 1905, when Mr. Greaves, took it over. Mr. Greaves was a native of Melbourne who had come to the Straits Settlements after spent seven years in India.
  • The stables could accommodate 225 horses.
  • The firm sold carriages and fodder imported from Austria and India. They also rented horse.
  • Their spatiality was providing horse and carriages for weddings.
  • The buildings on Koek Road covered about three acres and the proprietor lived onsite as did the chief trainer and his assistants. In 1908, the firm employed 4 Europeans and close to 125 natives.
