Set up in 1947 by the Aw family (makes of Tiger Balm). It was acquired in 1971 by the United Overseas Bank but continued to operate as a seperate entity. United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (UOB Malaysia) is a subsidiary of the United Overseas Bank Group, Singapore. Incorporated in Malaysia in 1993.

On June 7, 1997, UOB Malaysia merged with Chung Khiaw Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (CKBM)

In 1999, the Chung Khiaw Bank's operations in Singapore and Hong Kong were merged into UOB and placed under the United Overseas Bank signage.
